Guide
How to find customers on Reddit
Reddit is full of people asking strangers which tool, service or freelancer to pick. If you reply to the right threads early and helpfully, Reddit can be one of the best low-cost customer channels there is. This guide shows the manual method first, then how to automate the searching part.
1. Write down the phrases your buyers use
Buyers rarely type your brand name. They describe a problem or ask for a category. Make a list of 10–20 phrases in their words:
- “alternative to <competitor>” or “<competitor> too expensive”
- “looking for a <category> tool/app/service”
- “what do you use for <job>?”
- “best <category> for <audience>”
- “recommend a <freelancer type>”
2. Find where those questions get asked
Search Reddit for each phrase, sort by New, and note which subreddits show up again and again. Niche subreddits (for example r/freelance, r/smallbusiness or a tool-specific sub) usually beat giant general ones: less noise and more real buyers. Read each subreddit’s rules before you post anything.
3. Judge intent before replying
- High intent: they explicitly ask for a recommendation or alternative, mention a budget or deadline, or are switching from something.
- Medium: they describe a pain your product solves but are not shopping yet. Help, don’t pitch.
- Low: general discussion, launches, job posts. Usually skip.
4. Reply like a helpful human
Answer the actual question first with one or two concrete tips. Mention your product at most once, say clearly that you built it, and only when it fits. Never copy-paste the same reply across threads, and never use multiple accounts or vote manipulation. That is how accounts get banned.
5. Be fast and consistent
The first few useful replies get most of the attention. Checking your phrases once a day is enough for most products. Keep a simple log of threads you replied to and which ones turned into signups, and drop phrases that never convert.
Automating the searching (not the replying)
Searching dozens of phrases every day by hand gets old quickly. LeadPerch runs your phrases across Reddit, Hacker News and X daily, scores each post for buying intent with AI, and drafts a disclosed reply for the strong ones. You still read, edit and post every reply yourself, because that part should stay human.
FAQ
Is it allowed to promote my product on Reddit?
It depends on the subreddit. Many allow a disclosed mention when it genuinely answers the question; some ban it completely. Always read the rules and disclose your affiliation.
How many leads can I expect?
It varies a lot by category. Products people actively shop for (tools, freelancers, services) see far more “looking for” posts than niche B2B products. Start with broad buyer phrases and narrow down.
Does LeadPerch post for me?
No. It finds and ranks threads and drafts a reply; you post it yourself.
